Drug Formulation

Authentic toad fat (genuine if it numbs the tongue upon tasting) 2 liang; Atractylodes macrocephala (small with red spots; soaked in rice washing water, then stir-fried until dark yellow) 3 liang;Ming Tianma (steamed and sun-dried) 3 liang 6 qian, Ephedra (roots and nodes removed, sun-dried) 3 liang 6 qian, Ming Realgar (water-floated) 3 liang 6 qian, Cinnabar (water-floated) 3 liang 6 qian, Brocade-Patterned Rhubarb (sun-dried) 6 liang, Licorice (peeled) 2 liang 4 qian, Cloves (male or female) 6 qian, Musk 3 qian (one formula adds 3 qian of rhinoceros horn yellow).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Dissolve with toad venom and rice wine, then shape into pills the size of radish seeds and coat with cinnabar.

Instructions for Use

Combine two bowls of the mixture, hold it in your hands, and shake vigorously so the medicine swirls inside; this will naturally make it firm and glossy. Dry in the sun and store in a porcelain jar.For heatstroke with dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, and headache; cholera with vomiting and diarrhea; cold extremities; muscle cramps; hiccups; intestinal colic; stomach pain; sore throat and throat obstruction; malaria and dysentery—take 7–8 pills with warm water; for severe cases, take 13–14 pills;For epidemic diseases, measles, stroke with phlegm-induced syncope, or loss of consciousness, grind 3 pills into a fine powder and blow it into the nostrils, then administer a decoction of about 10 pills;For newborns with umbilical wind causing clenched jaws—where it is difficult to administer medicine—finely grind 1–2 pills, blow the powder into the nostrils to induce a sneeze; once sweating begins, the condition is cured. For sudden convulsions, grind into a powder, blow it into the nostrils, then administer the powder orally; the patient will revive immediately. For toothache, wandering malnutrition, malignant sores, carbuncles, snake, scorpion, or insect bites, and dog bites, pound into a paste, mix with wine, and apply to the affected area;For strangulation, falls and blows, or night terrors—if the patient shows even the slightest sign of life—grind the medicine into a fine powder, blow it into the nostrils, and administer it orally; the patient will be revived immediately. To ward off mountain mists, miasmas, and all forms of noxious fumes, hold 2–3 pills in the mouth; pathogenic toxins will not invade.

Note

Contraindicated for those with deficiency syndromes and pregnant women. Avoid tea, alcohol, and meals for 1–2 hours after taking the medicine.
