Drug Formulation

1 sheng of refined oil, 1 liang of Astragalus (chopped), 1 liang of Akebia (chopped), 1 liang of Apricot Kernels (soaked in hot water, with skin, tips, and double kernels removed, then ground), 1 piece of Soapberry (free of worms, with skin and seeds removed, coarsely chopped), and a clump of tangled hair the size of a chicken’s egg.

Processing

First, soak the above herbs in the oil overnight. The next morning, simmer over low heat until the herbal residue turns slightly black. Filter out the residue through cotton, then return the liquid to the pot and simmer further. Add 5 liang of lard refined over a month and 7 liang of orpiment (roasted until purple), and simmer them in the oil. Stir continuously with a willow wood spatula until the orpiment has completely dissolved.and the oil’s surface is clear. Next, add 1 liang of refined pine resin and 1 liang of imported non-wood powder. After adding these, stir continuously without stopping. Periodically drip a small amount onto a lacquerware vessel to test; when it solidifies and no longer sticks to your hands, remove from heat. Add 1 fen of musk (finely ground), stir until uniform, and pour into a porcelain box for storage.

Instructions for Use

For all types of sores and swellings, apply the ointment to a piece of cloth and affix it to the affected area; if the sore has not yet formed a head, applying it will cause it to subside; if a head has already formed, it will naturally drain on its own; for sores and swellings accompanied by burning pain, as well as lacerations and fractures, heat the ointment over a flame and apply it while still hot to immediately alleviate the pain; for intestinal abscesses, form pills the size of a paulownia seed; take 10 pills at a time on an empty stomach, washed down with warm wine.
