Drug Formulation
4 liang of fragrant white angelica root, 4 liang of white polygonum, 4 liang of Sichuan lovage, 4 liang of beeswax (melted and strained to remove impurities), 4 liang of licorice (roasted), half a liang of Chinese angelica root (washed and dried), half a liang of cloves, half a liang of dried toad, 28 wood turtle seeds (shells removed),2 mouse heads (those from the 12th lunar month are best), 1 chi of crimson silk (burned to ash), 10 liang of orpiment, 1 liang of a virgin’s hair, 98 apricot kernels (ground, with skin and tips intact), 1.5 liang of myrrh (ground), 2.5 liang of frankincense (ground separately), and 1.5 liang of dragon’s blood (ground separately).

Processing
Except for beeswax, realgar, frankincense, myrrh, and dragon’s blood, finely chop all other ingredients. Moisten them with fine wine, let them soak overnight, then pour the mixture into a cauldron. Add 2 jin of clear oil and simmer over low heat. When the mixture turns black, strain out the residue,transfer it to a clean cauldron, simmer over low heat for a short while, then add beeswax; wait until it melts. Next, add the yellow丹 in two separate batches, stirring continuously with a willow branch until the mixture forms beads when dripped into water. Only then add frankincense, myrrh, and dragon’s blood; stir evenly, allow to cool, and store in a clean porcelain container.

Instructions for Use
For a back abscess that has not yet formed pus, take a small handful of aged mugwort and 3 dou of water; boil for 10 boils, then let it cool slightly and wash the affected area with it. Subsequently, take 1 qian of the ointment, divided into 3 doses, dissolved in warm wine, and taken orally; also apply it externally. The pus will then be expelled along with the medicine;For intestinal or lung abscesses and malignant boils, take half a liang divided into 5 doses, dissolved in licorice decoction; for women suffering from blood deficiency, take pills the size of a paulownia seed, 10 pills per dose, mixed with ginger and rehmannia juice and washed down with a child’s urine; for tetanus, fractures, and internal injuries, take 10 pills per dose, washed down with warm wine. When rolling the pills, line your hands with oyster shell powder.
