Drug Formulation

5 jin of sesame oil; 4 liang and a half each of willow, locust, mulberry, and goji branches; 4 qian of sappan wood; 4 qian of agarwood; 3 qian of licorice; 2 qian of Fangfeng; 2 qian of Sichuan aconite; 2 qian of wild aconite; 2 qian of Pinellia; 1 qian and a half of Phellodendron bark; 2 qian of locust flowers; 4 qian of safflower; 2 qian of Magnolia officinalis; 5 qian of Coptis;3 qian of castor oil, 2 qian of Jiangzi, 4 qian of toothgrass, 2 qian of Tianhuafen,Chuanlian 2 qian, Angelica sinensis roots 3 qian, Sichuan pepper 2 qian, Pinellia ternata 4 qian, Acanthopanax bark 2 qian, Angelica dahurica 4 qian, Pangolin scales 2 qian, Atractylodes lancea 2 qian, Bletilla striata 2 qian, Trichosanthes kirilowii seeds 2 qian, Areca nut 2 qian, Ligusticum chuanxiong 2 qian, Fritillaria thunbergii 2 qian, Angelica dahurica 2 qian, and a woman’s oily hair.

Processing

Combine all the above herbs with the five branches in the oil and simmer until the herbs turn charcoal black. Strain out the residue using an iron strainer. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly; then add 35 liang of yellow丹. Stir thoroughly with a locust twig, return to heat, and bring to a gentle boil for 1–2 boils.Remove the pot from the heat, then add 1 liang each of Frankincense, Myrrh, and Dragon’s Blood powder; stir until uniform. Filter through raw hemp cloth into a separate vessel. Grind 1 liang of Musk into a fine powder, mix it evenly with 7 qian and a half of Mercury Oxide in the pot, and let it stand overnight before use.
