Processing

In a large pot, use sweet water to boil the raw and cooked Rehmannia root until the decoction is thick and concentrated, reducing it to 10 bowls, then set it aside. Add another large pot of water and boil again; once the decoction is thick and concentrated to just over 10 bowls, set it aside as well. Grind the two types of Rehmannia root into a fine powder using cold water, and strain through a silk bag to remove the residue. Add the prepared decoction to the pot with 1 large bucket of water, boil once, and reduce to 10 bowls of liquid. Repeat this process five times to obtain a total of 50 bowls of liquid;Mix the decoctions from the two Rehmannia preparations evenly with the decoctions of the other herbs, filter out the residue using a fine silk bag, and pour the clear decoction into a copper pot. Simmer over alternating low and high heat until it becomes a paste. Add 5 jin of honey and simmer for one or two boils, then add pine pollen, barium sulfate, white alum, frankincense, persimmon frost, pear, and lotus root. Once the paste is fully cooked and smooth, transfer it to a porcelain jar, ensuring no air escapes.
