Drug Formulation

1 liang of areca nut, 1 liang of white peony root, 1 liang of cloves, 1 liang of Asarum, 1 liang of Coptis, 1 liang of Chuanxiong,1 liang of apricot kernels (soaked in hot water; remove skin, tips, and double kernels), 1 liang of Cinnamomum cassia bark, 1 liang of Aconitum carmichaeli, 1 liang of Achyranthes bidentata (stems removed), 1 liang of Notopterygium incisum, 1 liang of Aconitum carmichaeli (raw, peel and navel removed), 1 liang of Cinnamomum cassia bark, 1 liang of Saposhnikovia divaricata (root tips removed), 1 liang of Gleditsia sinensis seeds (shells removed), 1 liang of Angelica sinensis,1 liang of Wood Fragrance, 1 liang of White Angelica, 1 liang of Frankincense, 1 liang of White Gum Resin, half a liang of Musk (finely ground), 4 liang of Beeswax, 1 jin of sheep fat, 1 jin of wild camel fat, 1 jin of lard.

Processing

Except for the fats, wax, and musk, finely chop all the herbs. Mix them evenly with half a sheng of rice vinegar and let them soak overnight. First, place the three types of fat in a cauldron and simmer over low heat until boiling; then add the herbs and simmer for half a day. When the Angelica dahurica turns reddish, strain the mixture. Add the wax and melt it completely, then filter through cotton cloth. Transfer to a porcelain jar and stir in the musk until evenly blended.
