Drug Formulation

1 jin of pine resin (select tender, white, and pure resin; grind into a fine powder and sift out the residue; use over 10 bowls of freshly drawn water; boil in a sandpot over mulberry wood fire for the duration of one incense stick, stirring constantly; once cooled, pour out the bitter liquid; replace with fresh water, boil again, and stir again;repeat this process 14–15 times until the water no longer tastes bitter; then add 4–5 bowls of white wine and simmer for the duration of one incense stick. Let cool, remove the mixture, dry it in the sun, and grind into a fine powder), half a jin of prepared rehmannia root (select plump, large roots from Huaiqing; discard any that are not yellow; soak, steam until soft, and pound into a paste),6 liang of black plum pulp (preferably from Anji; dry in an oven and grind into a fine powder).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a powder. If the dry mixture is too dry to form pills, add a small amount of wine-based flour paste to moisten it just enough to form pills the size of a Paulownia seed.

Instructions for Use

Take 30–50 pills per dose, taken before meals with tea or white wine.

Note

Avoid tofu; do not use iron utensils during preparation.
