Processing
Soak the powdered herbs in the oil for five days in spring, three days in summer, seven days in autumn, and ten days in winter. Remove them, place them in a pot, and simmer over a gentle then vigorous fire fueled by mulberry wood until the herbs are charred and the oil turns black. Use a fine-mesh iron ladle to skim off the dregs. Allow the mixture to cool and solidify, then filter it through a bamboo sieve, stirring frequently with a locust branch one chi long, similar in size to a large chopstick;Next, add the four herbal pastes; then add Huang Zhan and white wax; then add Dragon Bone and the other three ingredients, stirring continuously; next, add Huang Dan, stirring frequently; sift in the wheat flour through a silk sieve until it forms beads when water is dripped onto it. Wait until it has cooled and solidified before adding Frankincense and the other nine ingredients, sifting them in finely and stirring frequently. Once the ointment is formed, transfer it to a jar, bury it in soil for one day, then soak it in water for one day before use.If the heat is applied too early, the herbs will be undercooked; if too late, they will be overcooked. If undercooked, the oil will disperse and fail to form a paste; if overcooked, the herbs will be wasted and difficult to dissolve. Take great care to avoid the fire flaring up; if it does, cover the pot with a lid—never pour water on it, as this will cause the heat to surge upward. Exercise the utmost caution.For every 5 liang of raw herbs, use 1 jin of raw oil; for every 1 jin of raw oil, produce 10 liang of cooked medicinal oil; for every 1 jin of medicinal oil, add 6 liang of cinnabar; for every 1 jin of cinnabar, add 9 liang of water-processed cinnabar; for every 1 jin of powder, it can be stir-fried to yield 14 liang.

Instructions for Use
For lesions that have already ruptured, first wash the area with a concentrated decoction of Sichuan pepper, scallion whites, and licorice boiled with pig’s trotters; remove the necrotic tissue, apply the ointment, and wash the area 3–4 times daily, changing the ointment once a day.
