Benefits

Yin-related restlessness; excess above and deficiency below; heat above and cold below; internal depletion of Yin and external excess of Yang; rashes accompanied by extreme heat and restlessness; shortness of breath above and diarrhea below. Severe yin-deficiency fever following a stroke; hemoptysis, shortness of breath, and cough; all severe cases of consumptive diseases.

Instructions for Use

Decoct in water; mix with ginseng decoction before taking. Increase the dosage of ginseng from 2–3 qian to 4–5 qian; for cases of extreme deficiency, use 1–2 liang, adjusting according to the specific condition. Decoct the ginseng separately and mix it into the previous decoction. If the lung pulse is forceful and the original qi is not yet deficient, use the previous formula as is without mixing in ginseng.

Note

The above six ingredients must be decocted first; then, a concentrated decoction of ginseng should be prepared separately and mixed with the previous decoction. Although the ginseng harmonizes with the other herbs, its potency is thereby doubled, enabling it to harness the combined power of the formula and achieve significant therapeutic results. If ginseng is decocted together with the other herbs, it will permeate the mixture, thereby enhancing the effects of the other herbs while diminishing the potency of the ginseng itself. This formula is not suitable for cases of abdominal pain without bowel movements, even if accompanied by high fever, mental and physical exhaustion, or dryness of the lips and tongue. In cases of spleen qi deficiency, reduce the dosage of Rehmannia glutinosa and Ophiopogon japonicus, or omit them entirely. For the treatment of measles, this formula is generally used during the waning phase of the disease or when the rash appears prematurely.
