Angelica sinensis 2 liang, Rehmannia glutinosa 2 liang, Angelica dahurica 2 liang, Lonicera japonica 2 liang, Aconitum carmichaeli 2 liang, Aconitum carmichaeli (wild) 2 liang, Saposhnikovia divaricata 1 liang, Schizonepeta tenuifolia 1 liang, Paeonia rubra 1 liang, Notopterygium incisum 1 liang, Angelica pubescens 1 liang, Silkworm (dried) 1 liang, Cicada slough 1 liang, Tribulus terrestris 1 liang, Clematis chinensis 1 liang, Polygonum multiflorum 1 liang,1 liang Sichuan Achyranthes, 1 liang Pangolin Scale, 1 liang Snake Shed, 1 liang Fresh Orange Peel, 1 liang Licorice, 1 liang Phellodendron, 1 liang Cassia, 4 qian Frankincense, 4 qian Myrrh, 8 liang Mithridate (ground and added later), 1 jin 8 liang Guang Dan (added later).

Processing
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Soak the mixture in 6 jin of sesame oil for 5 days in spring, 3 days in summer, 7 days in fall, and 10 days in winter. Once the required number of days has elapsed, transfer the mixture to a pot and simmer over low heat until the oil is completely reduced. Strain out the residue, return the pure oil to the pot, and simmer until a drop of oil forms a bead when dropped. Add the ground Mituoseng powder and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and place on a cool stove for a short while, then add the Dongdan. This Dan is not roasted or stir-fried; it is classified as a “cold Dan.” Alternatively, it can be roasted or stir-fried to produce a “cooked Dan.”However, when adding the cold elixir, extreme care is required. The hot elixir is easy to process; once this elixir is added, stir continuously without stopping until it cools. When it is ready to be formed into a paste, add frankincense and myrrh, stir evenly, and the paste is complete.
