Processing
The ingredients listed above, from toad venom to wintergreen oil, and the ingredients listed below are stored separately. Grind the seven ingredients from raw Chuanwu to chili peppers into a No. 3 coarse powder; grind the toad venom and rosin separately into fine powders and sieve through an 80-mesh fine sieve; and roll the rubber into thin sheets.Extract the coarse powder of the seven ingredients, including raw Chuanwu, using four times their volume of 90% ethanol via the percolation method; recover the ethanol from the filtrate and concentrate it to a thick paste weighing approximately 460 liang.Extract the fine toad venom powder twice using the hot reflux method: for the first extraction, add four times the volume of 80% ethanol and reflux for 3 hours; for the second extraction, add three times the volume of 60% ethanol and reflux for 2 hours. Combine the extract solutions, recover the ethanol, and concentrate to a thick paste weighing approximately 1.5 liang.Place thin rubber sheets in gasoline and stir immediately to quickly loosen the sheets. After stirring for 30 minutes, seal the container and let it soak for 18–36 hours. Transfer the soaked rubber paste to a mixing tank and stir for 3 hours. Add wintergreen oil, lanolin, and petroleum jelly, and stir for 1 hour. Add zinc oxide and continue stirring. After 1 hour, add rosin,stir for 2 hours, then add camphor, menthol, borneol, concentrated toad venom paste, and concentrated raw Sichuan aconite paste. After adding all medicinal ingredients, continue stirring for 2 hours until everything is completely dissolved and uniformly mixed. Transfer the mixture to a rubber filtering machine, filter through an 80–100-mesh copper screen, pour into barrels, seal them, and let stand for 3–7 days. Transfer the mixed rubber paste to a coating machine for application.One hour before coating, turn on the heating equipment. Begin coating once the drying tunnel temperature reaches 85–90°C. Unwind the material (cut it off) once every 20 meters. Cut the unwound coated fabric into 6-centimeter-wide strips. Place a layer of stiff gauze (or plastic film) between every two strips, then cut them into 4.5-centimeter-long pieces.For one batch of production, approximately 500 meters of white cloth and 300 meters of gauze are used, yielding 75,000 6 × 4.5 cm patches with a tolerance of ±3%. The adhesive surface must be even and uniform in thickness. Each patch measures 6 × 4.5 cm; pack four patches per bag, seal them, and store in a cool, dry indoor location.
