Benefits

For cases where a rabid dog has bitten a person, or where wounds from dog bites fail to heal and the patient is foaming at the mouth—indicating that the toxin has invaded the heart, causing agitation and causing the person to cry out like a dog—

Instructions for Use

Mix one fangcun bi of the powder with water flowing eastward and take it; this will stop the symptoms. Generally, when a rabid dog bites a person, symptoms will manifest once every seven days; if no symptoms appear after three to seven days, the person is spared. It takes over one hundred days to be fully cured. Every seven days, one should pound leeks (or chives, according to some versions) to extract their juice and drink 2–3 sheng of it.

Note

One must abstain from eating dog meat and silkworm pupae for the rest of one’s life. If one consumes these and symptoms recur, the condition will be incurable. While the wound is still healing, one must also avoid raw foods, all fatty meats, and all cold foods; merely steaming raw fish to serve with rice or eating from greasy utensils will trigger a relapse. Alcohol should not be consumed; it is best to abstain for one year.
