Processing

Place the placenta in a sandpot along with 3 bowls of aged rice wine, 1 bowl of aged rice vinegar, 1 bowl of clear, pure children’s urine, and several bowls of rice washing water. Mix well and pour into the pot, ensuring the liquid covers the herbs by about one cun. If the liquid is insufficient, add more rice washing water. Cover the pot tightly with a lid to prevent air from entering, simmer over a slow fire fueled by mulberry or firewood until the placenta has dissolved and the liquid has evaporated. Remove both the placenta and the herbs, pound them to a very fine paste in a stone mortar, shape into cakes, and expose them to sunlight and moonlight for three days and nights—preferably during the full moon to absorb the essence of the sun and moon. Then roast them until dry, grind into a fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of a paulownia seed.
