Drug Formulation

4 liang of sesame oil, 5 qian of processed colophony, 2.5 qian of white beeswax, 2.5 qian of yellow beeswax, 1 liang of mercury oxide, 3 fen of borneol, 3 fen of musk, and 1 egg white.

Processing

Boil the sesame oil until it forms beads; add the colophony, white beeswax, and yellow beeswax, then boil further to remove smoke and scum, and strain through silk to clarify. First, add the finely ground mercury oxide; second, add the borneol; third, add the musk—stirring continuously as you add each ingredient to ensure thorough mixing. Add the egg white and stir until uniform. Store in a porcelain jar, seal with wax, and set aside for use. If left for more than two months, the ointment will dry out and become unusable.
