Processing

Coarsely crush the above ingredients. Fill a large earthenware basin with water, add the herbs, and decoct to make a decoction. Take 10 jin of calamine, heat it over a charcoal fire until it glows red-hot, then remove it with tongs and place it in the herbal decoction. Any pieces that do not match the size of the stone slabs must be softened with ghee; they are only considered good when they turn blue inside. If the stone does not soften, decoct the remaining herbal residue again, then quench the stone in the decoction until it softens. Then place the earthenware basin covered on the ground for one day and one night to neutralize the fire toxicity. Remove it once dry, grind it into an extremely fine powder. For every 10 jin of this stone, use 20 jin of gypsum, ground separately into a very fine powder, and mix evenly. Combine with the following herbs: cinnabar (calcined), orpiment (roasted; these two ingredients are mixed together as described above), southern frankincense, dragon’s blood, agarwood, frankincense, myrrh, white angelica,Coptis, Phellodendron, and White Knotweed—each in equal parts; Dragon Bone (calcined), Cinnabar, and Polygonum multiflorum—each ground into a fine powder. Mix these with the previous ingredients and use as directed.
