Commentary
Taking Sichuan fritillary bulb (Chuan Bei-mu) as the leading herb, the formula draws on its bitter, sweet flavor and slightly cold property: it enters the Lung, Heart meridians and works to clear heat, moisten the lung, dissolve phlegm and relieve cough. Snow pear (Xue-li) joins as the supporting deputy, sweet, slightly sour-cool in property, acting through the Lung, Stomach meridians to moisten the lung and clear heat, generate fluids and relieve cough. Without a separate harmonizing herb, the herbal tea formula balance is achieved through the mutual tempering of its active ingredients. Collectively, the combination dispel wind and clear the lungs, addressing the wind-heat and heat pattern.
