Drug Formulation

3 liang of Sophora japonica seeds, 24 liang of orpiment, 2 liang of human hair, 2.5 jin of sesame oil, 2 jin of lard, 5 liang of beeswax, 3 liang of white bark of Salix babylonica, 1 liang of white bark of Morus alba, half a liang of soapberry (with skin and seeds removed), half a liang of croton seed (with skin and core removed), 1 liang of Aconitum carmichaeli (with skin and pith removed), 1 liang of Angelica sinensis,1 liang of white acacia bark, half a liang of realgar (finely ground), and half a liang of musk (finely ground).

Processing

Finely chop all the ingredients. Add them to the lard and simmer over low heat for one day. Once the mixture is well-cooked and slightly charred, strain out the residue through cotton. In a clean pot, roast the yellow丹 until it turns purple, then immediately add the prepared medicinal decoction. Stir continuously with a willow branch without stopping until the mixture turns purple and, when dropped into water, forms beads. When all the oil has been extracted, remove from heat, add the realgar and musk, mix thoroughly, and store in a porcelain box.
