Drug Formulation

2.5 qian of gold leaf (calcined over a fire, then quenched 50 times with medicinal wine until done, and finely cut into thread-like strands), half a liang of mercury,half a liang of cinnabar, 1 liang of high-quality sulfur, 4 liang of native copper (pounded into a powder; place it in a pot, cover loosely with a clay lid without sealing, and calcine it in a charcoal brazier until the fire dies down; let it cool, then remove and grind finely; wash with water until dry; combine all four ingredients in a mortar and grind until as fine as flour, ensuring no traces of mercury remain visible), half a liang of raw rhinoceros horn,3 fen of antelope horn (both weighed), half a liang of dried scorpion (roasted), half a liang of white silkworm pupae (roasted, silk removed), half a liang of Tiannanxing (processed, skin and navel removed), half a liang of patchouli leaves, 3 liang of white flower snake (soaked in wine until soft, skin and bones removed, dried in an oven, then weighed),black snake 3 liang (soaked in medicinal wine until soft, skin and bones removed, baked dry and weighed), cassia bark 1 liang, white atractylodes 3 fen, white angelica root 3 fen, Sichuan lovage 3 fen, broken paper bark (roasted) 3 fen,Fenugreek (roasted) 3 fen, White Aconite (roasted) 3 fen, Piper longum 3 fen, Notopterygium (stem removed) 3 fen, Angelica sinensis (roasted; some sources say soaked in wine) 3 fen, Achyranthes root (soaked in wine overnight, then dried) 3 fen,Saposhnikovia root (with root stalk removed) 3 fen, deer antler (scorched to remove hair, sliced, coated with butter, and roasted) 3 fen, Aconite root (processed, with skin and pith removed) 1 liang 1 fen, Sichuan Aconite (processed, with skin and tip removed) 1 liang 1 fen, Agarwood half a liang, Gastrodia tuber 1 liang and a half, Frankincense 3 qian 3 fen, Benzoin half a liang (ground separately).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Mix this with the powder of the preceding five ingredients, then incorporate the benzoin paste and blend thoroughly. Return the mixture to the mortar and pound 500 times with a pestle. Form 10 pills from each liang.

Instructions for Use

Take 1 pill per dose, chewing it thoroughly on an empty stomach and washing it down with warm wine, three times a day. For those who have been unable to walk for several years due to stroke, taking up to 10 pills will restore them to their former condition; for those who have recently suffered a stroke, three doses should be sufficient for a full recovery; for regular maintenance, take half a pill.
