Formulas Name : Golden Elixir for Dissolving and Absorbing the Elixir

Chinese Name : 金液含化灵丹

Drug Formulation

8 liang of mountain-mined silver vermilion, 1 liang 5 of cinnabar (soaked in golden liquid for 5 days; wrap each piece in two layers of gold leaf).

Source

*Shenghui*, Volume 95.

Processing

First, spread 1 liang of silver powder in a porcelain box, then arrange the cinnabar chunks inside, ensuring they do not touch one another.Cover them evenly with silver powder. Add another layer of cinnabar chunks and cover them again with silver powder. Continue this process until all the cinnabar is used up, then cover the top with salt crystals until the box is filled to the brim. Pack it tightly according to the method, seal it securely, and place it in an ash pit, ensuring the ash layer on top of the box is 4 inches thick. Maintain a gentle heat of 2 liang for 7 days and 7 nights; do not let the fire burn too fiercely—the box should be warm enough to allow a person’s hand to pass through it.After the full period, remove it, rearrange the contents, and reseal it tightly following the previous method. Maintain the heat at 4 liang for 20 days; then increase the heat to 2–3 jin and burn it until it is fully cooked. Allow it to cool completely, then remove it and grind it finely. Add half a fen of borneol, grind them together into a powder, and mix with rice wine lees to form pills the size of millet grains.

Instructions for Use

Each day on an empty stomach, hold 3 pills in your mouth and swallow them with your own saliva. To make oil, for every 1 liang, use 1 qian of ground cassia bark and fat rendered from a large sheep’s kidney (from the “yuequ” region)—refined into a ball the size of a marble—add 1 qian of borneol, and grind thoroughly for 2 days. Place the mixture in a silver box, bury it in a steamer filled with rice bran, and steam it through the three hottest periods of summer; it will naturally transform into oil. Each day, hold a piece the size of a yardlong bean in your mouth.

Note

Avoid sheep’s blood.
