Drug Formulation

Southern Frankincense 1 liang, Myrrh half a liang, Pine Resin 5 liang, Tiantai Wuyao 1 liang, Trichosanthes Seed 3 qian (use the kernel, remove the skin; 2 qian), Angelica Root 3 qian, Red Peony Root 3 qian, Vegetable Oil 2 liang, Dragon’s Blood 3 qian.

Processing

Of the above ingredients, except for Frankincense, Myrrh, Pine Resin, and Dragon’s Blood (the four mentioned above), soak the four ingredients—including Wuyao—in the aforementioned vegetable oil for five days. Simmer them together over low heat until the mixture boils several dozen times, then strain out the residue. Let the liquid settle overnight to clarify. Add the Southern Frankincense and the remaining ingredients, and stir continuously with a willow wood spatula until it forms a paste.
