First, take the three ingredients—Angelica sinensis, Coptis, and Gentiana—chop them into pieces, and decoct them in a copper pot with 2 large bowls of water.Use this decoction to wash Frankincense and Myrrh, then use the same liquid to wash the Eagle’s Feather and White Cloves. Separately, take 4 liang of Coptis, wash it thoroughly and let it dry, grind it into a fine powder, sift it twice, and grind it again until extremely fine—or use another method to grind it to this fineness. In a sand pot, mix it with 4 liang of purified honey and boil together. Then gradually add the remaining herbs and simmer until it becomes a paste. Stop once it is ready to be made into pills. (Add the following two ingredients last:) Half a qian of musk (ground very finely and sifted), and half a qian of borneol (ground very finely and sifted; wait until the previous mixture has formed a paste before adding these two ingredients).
