Drug Formulation

1 dou of green hemp stems (chopped together with the leaves; those harvested during the Zhongyuan Festival are best; otherwise, those harvested in the fall are also acceptable; discard the top 1 chi where the soil was attached; the old formula states that unfermented hemp has the same effect), 3 small lotus leaves (also harvested during the Zhongyuan Festival and sun-dried), half a liang of Angelica sinensis, 3 fen of licorice (roasted), 3 fen of aged tangerine peel, and 3 fen of ginger (crushed).

Coarsely chop the ingredients, prepare as a decoction, and divide into 4 doses.

Instructions for Use

For each dose, combine one zhan of high-quality, ash-free liquor with one zhan of urine, and decoct until reduced to one zhan. Shortly after giving birth, take one dose of this decoction; if the placenta fails to expel, taking it will cause it to expel immediately; even if the delivery proceeds without complications, take two doses to ensure no postpartum complications arise, and all pathological stagnations will be expelled. Before the start of the next menstrual cycle, the medicinal ingredients should be gathered and stored in advance.
