Mountain Spirit Longevity Pills
Formulas Name : Mountain Spirit Longevity Pills
Chinese Name : 山精寿子丸
Drug Formulation
2 liang 5 qian of Chinese yam (select firm, sound specimens; do not use those with wormholes), 5 liang 2 qian of Polygonatum (select genuine Polygonatum; pound separately into a paste and set aside. If steamed and sun-dried nine times each, then ground into powder while dry, the result is even better), 7 liang 5 qian of black dates (select plump and large ones; remove skins, pits, and any rotten parts; pound into a paste separately and set aside), 1 liang 5 qian of Huai Achyranthes (remove the root stalk and clean thoroughly; mix with wine and steam, or steam with Polygonum multiflorum as a base; dry in the sun before use. Alternatively, Achyranthes may be replaced entirely with Dendrobium, though the quantity must be doubled.Dendrobium grows in the mountains of Lu’an; it resembles the thigh of a grasshopper in shape, and is only authentic when it has a sweet taste and a sticky texture), 2 liang 5 qian of large Polygonum multiflorum (or 3 liang is also acceptable; soak in black bean broth until soft, crush with a wooden mallet, place in a earthenware vessel with black bean broth poured into the bottom, ensuring it is thoroughly moistened with the broth, steam for the duration of one stick of incense, allow to cool and sun-dry; once the moisture has evaporated, mix again and steam, repeat this process 9 times; during the summer months, steaming and sun-drying 3–4 times a day is sufficient. Sun-dry until extremely dry, then weigh accurately), Sichuan Eucommia 2 liang (roast, grind into a fine powder, and weigh accurately), Sichuan Dipsacus 2 liang (moisten with wine, peel off the flesh, chop, and sun-dry), Large Prepared Rehmannia 4 liang (those boiled lose both their aroma and flavor and are unsuitable for use; it is best to steam and sun-dry them 9 times each),3 liang 5 qian of herb Rubus (remove the calyxes, mix with wine, bake until dry, and grind into a fine powder for use); 2 liang 5 qian of Tribulus terrestris (roast for use);2 liang of Sichuan Morinda root (soak in wine, remove the pith, steam until tender, then sun-dry for use), 2 liang of Cistanche (wash with wine, remove mud and scales—but do not wash excessively to avoid stripping away the slippery coating, which may damage the flesh; dry between sheets of paper, then weigh accurately to determine the exact amount), 2 liang of Polygala (soak in licorice decoction, remove the pith, mix again with licorice decoction, stir-fry until dry, then weigh the clean flesh to determine the exact amount),Dodder Seeds 4 liang (select large, black ones; thoroughly clean; place in a cloth bag; wash until the water runs clear; steam in a clay pot to split open the husks; pound into a paste, shape into cakes, sun-dry, and weigh for use),Poria cocos 2 liang (select pure white specimens; those from Liuying Mountain or Yunnan are best. Slices sold in markets often have the membrane attached; if not ground into powder and washed with water, the membrane cannot be removed, and the potency is already reduced by the water.Alternatively, use whole Poria from Yunnan; remove the membrane yourself before use, ensuring it does not come into contact with water—since it is not sliced, the membrane is easier to remove), 2 liang of Cornus officinalis flesh (remove the pits; weigh the clean flesh accurately; steam with wine; pound into a paste; sun-dry), 2 liang of Liaoning Schisandra berries, and 5 liang of Ganzhou goji berries (remove stems and calyxes thoroughly).
