Drug Formulation

1 jin of sesame oil, 1 liang of peach, 2 liang of elm, 1 liang of toon, 1 liang of locust, 1 liang of willow, 1 liang of cypress branches, 1 liang of paper mulberry, 4 liang of pig bristles, 1 liang of human hair, 1 jin of safflower spikes (all of the above are simmered in the oil until charred, then strained; the remaining oil is used to infuse the following herbs), 1 liang of Coptis,Scutellaria baicalensis 1 liang, Phellodendron amurense 1 liang, Gardenia jasminoides 1 liang, Rheum palmatum 1 liang, Forsythia suspensa 1 liang, Aconitum carmichaeli 1 liang, Polygonum cuspidatum 1 liang, Ligusticum chuanxiong 1 liang, Saposhnikovia divaricata 1 liang, Schizonepeta tenuifolia 1 liang, Trichosanthes kirilowii 1 liang, Mentha haplocalyx 1 liang, Atractylodes lancea 1 liang, Sophora flavescens 1 liang, Manis pentadactyla 1 liang, Angelica sinensis root tip 1 liang,Castor seeds 1 liang (boil in oil until charred, then remove; this is called “decocted oil.” For every 1 liang of oil, add 5 qian of orpiment, boil until a drop of water forms a bead, remove from heat and let cool slightly, then add the following fine powders), Asafoetida 1 qian, Dragon’s Blood 1 qian, Aloe 1 qian,1 qian of borax, 1 qian of realgar, 1 qian of frankincense, 1 qian of myrrh, 1 qian of Coptis chinensis, 1 qian of catechu, 1 qian of mercuric oxide, 1 qian of realgar, 1 qian of turmeric, 3 centi-liang of centipede (ground into powder), 1 liang of camphor, and 3 fen of musk.
