Processing

Soak 10 of the 16 crude herbs listed above in 6.5 jin of sesame oil for 3 days. First, boil the human hair until dissolved; then add the remaining herbs and boil until they turn yellow, withered, and float to the surface. Strain out the herbal residue;Next, add yellow丹 and boil until a drop of water forms a bead. Lift the pot and let it rest for a moment; while still hot, add the finely ground herbs (Cinnamon Bark, Frankincense, Myrrh, Mercury Oxide, and Asafoetida), stirring continuously until the mixture is as black as lacquer and as clear as a mirror. Test the consistency by dropping a small amount into water—it should be neither too hard nor too soft. While still hot, transfer the mixture to a large water jar and soak for 7 days.
