Processing
Grind the first 52 ingredients (totaling 5 jin) into a fine powder. Add 12 jin of sesame oil, soak overnight, then begin decocting. Stir with branches of locust, willow, or peach until the mixture is charred and dry. Strain out the residue, then continue decocting until the mixture does not disperse when a drop of water is added. At this point, add the remaining 16 ingredients. Simmer over low heat until charred, strain out the residue, and filter thoroughly. Return the mixture to the pot and simmer with the oil for the duration of one incense stick. Add 5 jin of realgar, 1 jin of “nameless mineral,”8 liang of Snake-Containing Stone—all finely ground into powder—and slowly stir them in. Continue simmering until a drop of water forms a bead and does not seep through paper when spread out. Place the mixture on the ground while still warm, then add 5 qian of musk, 8 qian of camphor, and 4 liang of frankincense. Stir thoroughly, transfer to a container, and let stand for three nights.
