Drug Formulation

5 qian of well salt (if unavailable, substitute with rock salt), 1 chebulic myrobalan (pitted), 5 qian of Coptis (stems removed), 2.5 qian of cuttlefish bone (shell removed), 3 liang of orpiment (water-floated).

Processing

Grind the ingredients into a fine powder. Boil 10 liang of high-quality honey to remove the white foam, then strain it thoroughly. Place the powdered mixture in a silver or copper vessel, and simmer slowly over alternating high and low heat. Stir with locust or willow twigs until it forms a paste; stop when it turns purple. Transfer to a clean porcelain container and bury it underground for one fu period to remove the heat toxicity, then retrieve it.
