1 dou of rat-tail seeds.

Processing

Rinse with water to remove floating debris, sun-dry, and crush. Place in a clean sand basin with 5 sheng of ash-free wine, grind until extremely fine, then filter through a silk sieve to extract the white liquid. Grind the residue again with 5 sheng of wine, continuing until all the white liquid has been filtered out. Add 2 dou of wine, mix thoroughly,place in a non-porous container and seal tightly. Leave for 14 days in spring and autumn, 7 days in summer, and 21 days in winter; open once the required number of days has elapsed.

Instructions for Use

Each day at dawn, stir the mixture with a utensil until it becomes cloudy; immediately take one small cup while warm, followed by another small cup. After finishing, reseal the container. Do not allow the vapors to escape; wait a considerable time before eating or drinking, and take another dose in the evening.For severe cases, taking a total of 2 shuo will bring about a cure; if taken immediately upon the first signs of illness, a cure can be achieved with no more than 1–2 dou. It also treats rheumatic arthritis, sudden-onset pain, and wind-induced numbness and stiffness; in severe cases, a cure can be achieved with no more than 5 dou.For pain in the lower back and legs, stiffness in the tendons and joints, inability to retain sweat after a serious illness, and rigidity of the limbs, take 3 dou to be cured; or if, due to consuming hot foods, the body feels as if pierced by needles, the mouth is dry and the face contorted, the head spins and the chest feels oppressed, accompanied by vomiting—indicating wind affecting the heart—take 3–4 dou to be cured.
