Drug Formulation

Aconite Root (1 large root; processed by removing the skin and navel, then soaked in ginger juice—3 days in summer, 5 days in spring and autumn, 7 days in winter—baked dry, and lightly roasted until yellow) half liang; Atractylodes macrocephala 2 qian and a half; Chebulic Myrobalan (processed, pitted) 2 qian and a half; Licorice (roasted) 2 qian and a half.

Processing

Grind the ingredients into a fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of a chicken’s egg.

Benefits

For children with intermittent vomiting and diarrhea, heavy breathing, restlessness and thirst, sluggish eyes and lethargy, abdominal pain and refusal to eat, and cold breath—where other medications are too potent to be used.

Instructions for Use

For a 3-year-old, take 1 pill with half a zhan of water; decoct until reduced to 3 fen. During the summer months, take it cold before meals; in spring, autumn, and winter, take it warm. In critical cases, administer 3 consecutive doses. For milder cases of vomiting and diarrhea, one dose is effective, provided that breastfeeding is discontinued from the start and throughout the treatment.
