Drug Formulation

Purple Aster (remove stems and soil) 1 liang, Evodia (washed 7 times in boiling water, then dried in an oven) 1 liang, Acorus 1 liang, Bupleurum (remove filaments) 1 liang, Magnolia Bark (processed with ginger) 1 liang, Platycodon (remove root stalk), Poria (remove skin), Soapberry (remove skin, strings, etc., and roast)Cinnamon Twig, Dried Ginger (roasted), Coptis (stems removed) 8 qian, Sichuan Pepper (seeds and closed tips removed, lightly roasted) half liang, Croton Seed (skin and membrane removed, oil extracted, ground) half liang, Ginseng (root base removed) half liang, Sichuan Aconite (roasted, skin and navel removed) 3 qian, Notopterygium half liang, Angelica pubescens half liang, Saposhnikovia half liang.

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, mix in the croton seeds, and blend with refined honey to form pills the size of a Paulownia seed.

Instructions for Use

Take 3 pills per dose, gradually increasing to 5–7 pills. Take after meals or before bedtime with ginger decoction. Specific instructions follow: For hemorrhoids, fistulas, and intestinal wind, take with wine; for red and white dysentery, take with che-zi decoction; for dysentery with pus and blood, take with rice-drink decoction; for blood-induced oppression following a fall or injury, with unresponsive limbs, take with wine; for roundworms gnawing at the heart, take with areca nut decoction;choking due to qi stagnation or anxiety—take with lotus leaf decoction; injuries from falls or blows, or alcohol poisoning—take with broom ash and licorice decoction; all types of wind disorders—take with Cimicifuga decoction; white roundworms—take with areca nut decoction; cholera—take with dried ginger decoction; cough—take with apricot kernel decoction; lower back and kidney pain—take with soybean and lint decoction; cold damage with yin toxicity—take with warm wine;For vomiting, take with fresh ginger decoction; for food or drink-induced qi stagnation, take with wheat flour decoction; for epidemic diseases, take with well water; for spleen wind, take with dried tangerine peel decoction; for headache, take with water; for chest pain, take with warm wine; for obstruction of urination or defecation, take with lampwick decoction; for injuries caused by specific substances, take with a decoction made from that substance; for vomiting water, take with pear decoction; for qi disorders, take with dried ginger decoction;For infantile convulsions caused by “heavenly wind,” administer with Fangfeng Decoction; Fangji may also be used; for infantile malnutrition-induced dysentery, administer with scallion-white decoction; for infantile indigestion from milk or food, administer with plain broth; for amenorrhea, administer with decocted safflower wine; for abdominal pain in women, administer with Chuanxiong Decoction; for spontaneous abortion after six months of pregnancy, administer with mugwort decoction; for fetal qi surging to the heart, administer with wine;Postpartum fainting and pain: take with warm wine; pain due to blood and qi stagnation: take with Angelica wine; postpartum heart pain and abdominal distension: take with Doulin Decoction; difficult labor: take with Yizhi Decoction; postpartum bloody dysentery: take with Angelica Decoction; red and white vaginal discharge: take with wine-decocted Artemisia Decoction; to treat both internal and external cold-induced fever: take with congee; menstrual blockage in unmarried women: take with wine; fetal death: take with Malva Seed Decoction.
