Drug Formulation

2 liang of Akebia stem, 2 liang of Astragalus membranaceus, 2 liang of Notopterygium, 2 liang of Ligusticum chuanxiong, 2 liang of Rehmannia glutinosa, 2 liang of peach kernels, 2 liang of Angelica dahurica, 2 liang of Forsythia, 2 liang of Scrophularia, 2 liang of Saposhnikovia, 2 liang of Trichosanthes seed kernels, 2 liang of Angelica sinensis powder, 2 liang of frankincense (ground separately), and 2 liang of myrrh (ground separately).

Processing

Except for frankincense, myrrh, and Angelica sinensis, all other ingredients should be coarsely chopped.4.5 jin of pure sesame oil, 24 liang of roasted yellow丹; add the yellow丹 to the oil in batches, stirring continuously with 3–5 willow twigs. Do not overcook the yellow丹, and do not use high heat; continue until the yellow丹 turns black and does not disperse when a drop of water is added. Remove and allow to cool slightly, then add the frankincense, myrrh, and Angelica sinensis powder, stirring until well blended. Simmer over low heat for about 1 hour, leave exposed to the open air overnight, and preserve with clam powder; use as needed.

Instructions for Use

Once applied, the poultice must not be removed for several days; removing it too soon will cause pain.
