Drug Formulation

15–20g of Yuzhu (or 30–60g of fresh Yuzhu), a small amount of rock sugar, and 2 liang of japonica rice.

Benefits

For lung yin deficiency, dry cough due to lung dryness (with little or no phlegm), or restlessness and thirst following a high fever; dry mouth and tongue; persistent low-grade fever due to yin deficiency; and as an adjunctive therapy for various types of heart disease and cardiac insufficiency.

Instructions for Use

First, wash fresh, plump Yuzhu, remove the root hairs, chop it finely, and extract a concentrated juice before straining out the residue; or boil Yuzhu to make a decoction, strain out the residue, add japonica rice, and then add an appropriate amount of water to cook into a thin porridge. Once the porridge is ready, add rock sugar and simmer for 1–2 boils.

Note

Avoid use in cases of phlegm-dampness and qi stagnation in the stomach, characterized by a sensation of fullness in the stomach, a greasy mouth with excessive phlegm, indigestion, aversion to drinking water, and a thick, greasy tongue coating.
