Drug Formulation

1 liang 5 qian of Asarum, 2 liang 3 qian of raw Astragalus, 1 liang 5 xian of raw Eucommia, 8 qian of Notopterygium, 1 liang 5 qian of Poria, 1 liang 5 qian of Huai Achyranthes, 1 liang 5 qian of Saposhnikovia, 1 liang 2 qian of Licorice, 1 liang 5 xian of raw White Peony, 1 liang 5 qian of Chuanxiong, and 1 liang 5 qian of Ginseng (root tip removed).

Processing

Fry the above ingredients in 15 jin of sesame oil until charred, then remove the residue and filter thoroughly. Refine the oil until a drop forms a bead when held up to water. Add 90 liang of cinnabar and stir until evenly mixed into a paste. For every 15 jin of ointment oil, mix in 1 liang 2 qian of meat-flavored wheat flour and 1 qian 5 fen of musk, stirring until uniform. Each large patch contains 8 qian of pure oil; each small patch contains 5 qian.

Instructions for Use

Men should apply the patch to the Qihai acupoint (on the abdomen); women should apply it to the Guanyuan acupoint (below the navel); for lower back and leg pain, apply to the affected area.
