Drug Formulation

Cistanche (1 jin; soak in wine, thoroughly scrape off all rough skin and grit, finely chop, dry in an oven, pound and sift into a fine powder, then weigh),Achyranthes root 8 liang (remove the shoots, soak in wine, chop coarsely, dry in an oven, pound and sift into a fine powder, then weigh), Dodder seeds (select those that taste sweet and slippery; rinse with water to remove floating seeds) 4.5 liang (soak in wine for 3–5 days until soft and mushy; grind into a paste in a sand pot),4 papayas (if flowerless papayas are unavailable, use 10 small, ripe yellow papayas instead; peel and remove the seeds, then boil separately in wine until soft and mushy; grind in a sand pot until paste-like; mix evenly with 1 dou 5 sheng of medicinal wine; combine all four ingredients and simmer in a double boiler over low heat until a paste forms, stirring constantly,do not let it burn; then assess the consistency of the resulting mixture—if too hard, add more refined, well-cooked honey until it reaches a soft consistency, as this is essential for its nourishing properties and ease of forming into pills), 6 pieces of Aconite (roasted until cracked, peel and pith removed, coarsely ground, mixed evenly with 3 liang of ground rock salt, then stir-fried until yellow and used together), 5 liang of Elk Antler (coarsely ground) (mixed with clarified butter and stir-fried until yellow),4 liang of red pepper, 2 liang of cardamom seeds, 3 liang of psoralea (sorted, weighed, and stir-fried until fragrant), 3.5 liang of paper mulberry seeds (ripe red seeds; rinse to remove floaters, dry in an oven, and weigh), 3 liang of morinda root (remove the core, stir-fry until yellow),Saussurea costus 2 liang, deer antler (dehaired, roasted with ghee; 3 liang), cinnamon bark (coarse outer bark removed) 3 liang, Cnidium monnieri (thoroughly sorted) 2 liang, areca nut 2 liang (chopped), dried ginger (cracked by roasting) 3 liang.

Processing

Grind the above thirteen ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with the previously prepared paste to form a paste, then place it in a mortar and pound 2,000–3,000 times. Add a small amount of pure ghee and roll into pills the size of a Paulownia seed.

Instructions for Use

Take 30 pills per dose, gradually increasing to 50 pills; take on an empty stomach with warm wine, or with salted water; take another dose before the evening meal.
