Danshen

Danshen is a medicinal herb used to promote blood circulation and regulate menstruation. It consists of the dried roots and rhizomes of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge., a plant in the genus Salvia of the Lamiaceae family. It has the effects of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, unblocking meridians and relieving pain, clearing the heart and relieving restlessness, and cooling the blood to resolve abscesses.It is primarily used for chest pain due to chest bi syndrome, epigastric, abdominal, and flank pain, masses and accumulations, pain from heat-bi syndrome, restlessness and insomnia, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea and amenorrhea, and swollen and painful sores.

Atractylodes

Atractylodes is a commonly used herb for tonifying qi. It is the dried rhizome of the Asteraceae plant Atractylodes, named for the resemblance of its roots, stems, branches, and leaves to the ancient seal script character “术,” and for the white interior of its rhizome. It is primarily produced in Zhejiang and Anhui; traditionally, the variety from Yuqian, Zhejiang, is considered the finest and is commonly known as “Yu Shu.”This herb has the effects of strengthening the spleen and tonifying qi, drying dampness and promoting diuresis, stopping sweating, and stabilizing the fetus. It is commonly used to treat spleen deficiency with poor appetite, abdominal distension and diarrhea, phlegm-retention with dizziness and palpitations, edema, spontaneous sweating, and fetal restlessness. In addition, Atractylodes macrocephala can be incorporated into daily meals, such as in congee or soups, to help nourish and strengthen the body.

Notoginseng Flower

Panax notoginseng Flower, a traditional Chinese medicine. It is the dried inflorescence of Panax notoginseng (Burk.) F.H. Chen, a plant of the Araliaceae family. This herb has a sweet taste and a cool nature; it enters the Liver and Kidney meridians. It has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, calming the liver and improving vision, and promoting fluid production to quench thirst. It can be used to treat dizziness, tinnitus, insomnia, hypertension, migraines, and acute pharyngitis.

Buddha’s Hand

Boshouguan is the name of a traditional Chinese medicine. It is the dried fruit of Citrus medica L. var. sarcodactylis Swingle, a plant of the Rutaceae family.This herb has a pungent, bitter, and sour taste; it is warm in nature and enters the Liver, Spleen, Stomach, and Lung meridians. It has the effects of regulating Liver Qi, harmonizing the stomach and relieving pain, and drying dampness to transform phlegm. It is primarily used to treat Liver-Stomach Qi stagnation, distending pain in the chest and flanks, epigastric fullness and distension, poor appetite and vomiting, and cough with excessive phlegm.
