Drug Formulation

3 liang of black lead, 3 liang of sulfur (that is, if 3 liang each of sulfur and black lead are used, take approximately 8 liang of black lead, melt them together in a crucible, remove the dross and clean thoroughly, then pour the entire mixture onto the ground. Melt it again in the crucible. Take five layers of rice paper, pinch the four corners to form a box-like shape, pour the black lead inside, and knead it to obtain a fine powder. Sift it through a silk cloth—this will likely damage the cloth, so place the paper and powder together on the ground. Let it cool slightly; when the paper becomes charred, replace it.place the finer material on top. Remelt the coarse lead, knead it again, and sift it once more, repeating this process until all the fine material has been extracted. Weigh out 3 liang of this fine lead. Then take 3 liang of high-quality sulfur, grind it finely, and mix it evenly with the lead powder. In a crucible, stir continuously with an iron spoon over a moderate flame—neither too fast nor too slow—until the mixture emulsifies. Pour it onto a clean brick. Add 1 liang of fenugreek (lightly roasted),burnt paper (roasted until fragrant) 1 liang, Sichuan melia fruit (pitted, lightly roasted) 1 liang, cardamom 1 liang, morinda root (core removed) half a liang, frankincense half a liang, agarwood half a liang.
