Drug Formulation

1 liang of tangled hair, 6 liang of orpiment, 1 chi 2 cun of scarlet silk (burned to ash), 2 liang of pine resin, half a liang of ground cloves, 1 liang of beeswax, 1 liang of salt,1 liang of Bupleurum (stems removed), 1 liang of Astragalus, half a liang of frankincense (finely ground), 2 liang of Datura seeds, 1 jin of pure sesame oil, half a liang of donkey ear plugs, and 50 curved thorn needles.

Processing

Refine the oil from the above herbs until no smoke remains; then add the silk cloth, hair, pine resin, wax, and other ingredients, and simmer until the hair is completely dissolved. Take the previously prepared Bupleurum and other ingredients, coarsely chop them, and add them to the oil cauldron. Simmer over low heat for the duration of one rice-cooking cycle, then filter through cotton to remove the dregs.Return the oil to the cauldron, add realgar, and stir continuously without stopping. When the mixture turns black, add ground cloves and frankincense and mix thoroughly. Periodically drip a small amount onto hot iron to test; if it forms a pill when pinched, the medicine is ready. Store in a non-porous container.

Apply by spreading the mixture on a piece of silk; change the dressing twice daily.
