Formulas Name : Decoction of Live Soft-Shelled Turtle
Chinese Name : 活鳖煎
Drug Formulation
1 live soft-shelled turtle (weighing half a jin; keep it in river water for 5 days; use 5 sheng of children’s urine, 5 sheng of rice wine, and 5 black plums—all crushed; add 1 he of chopped peach and willow twigs; wrap all ingredients in a fresh cotton pouch and simmer over low heat until the turtle dies; at this point, reduce the liquid by half; remove the cotton pouch; remove the turtle’s shell, intestines, and innards; finely chop and grind the meat until smooth; simmer again until the liquid is reduced by about half;transfer to a bowl with a lid. Roast the shell and bones until they turn a dark yellowish-brown, then add the following herbs: ginseng, amber, wood fragrant, bupleurum, trichosanthes fruit, apricot kernels, astragalus, Hengshan, benzoin, aconite, angelica, cinnamon, notopterygium, anemarrhena, poria, and black plum pulp—all in equal parts.

Processing
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with the softshell turtle shell paste and pound with a pestle 1,000 times to form pills the size of a Paulownia seed.

Take 30 pills per dose, before meals and at bedtime, washed down with warm wine.
