Drug Formulation

Goose-tube stone (calcined, quenched 7 times in good vinegar) 1 qian; Yu Liang stone (calcined, quenched 7 times in vinegar) 1 qian; licorice root 3 fen; dried white alum 5 fen; gypsum (calcined) 5 fen; winterflower 5 fen.

Instructions for Use

Take 3 fen 2 li per dose. After dinner in the evening, sit quietly for a short while. Place the medicine on a piece of paper, insert a 5-cun-long bamboo tube straight into the throat, and inhale the medicine forcefully—there is no need to worry about doing it too quickly. Inhale until all the medicine is absorbed, then rinse your mouth with a mouthful of weak tea and swallow it.

Note

Avoid chicken, fish, mutton, goose, and all foods that induce wind or trigger symptoms, as well as raw and cold foods. Eat only plain boiled pork and eggs; observe this regimen for 21 days.Prepare one set of boar’s lungs, add half a jin of meat, one one-year-old gardenia fruit (roasted until charred), and an unspecified amount of mulberry bark. Roast all ingredients together until thoroughly tender. Remove the medicinal components. At the fifth watch, the patient must not speak; have someone feed the patient the broth and lungs. The patient may chew and eat as desired; the remainder may be consumed later.
