Black beans, arsenic trioxide 1 liang, raw orpiment 2 liang, cinnabar.

Processing

On the 4th day of the 5th lunar month, select black beans and soak them in cold water until the morning of the Dragon Boat Festival. Take 1 liang of high-quality arsenic trioxide and grind it very finely by hand; mix it with 2 liang of raw yellow丹. Remove the skins from the black beans and grind them into a paste. When forming the pills, divide the mixture into large and small pills and coat them with fine cinnabar.

Instructions for Use

For the elderly, the infirm, and pregnant women—who must not take this medicine—divide the mixture into ten or so sizes of pills, with the largest no larger than a Paulownia seed. On the day of onset, take one pill at the beginning of the fifth watch, washed down with well water.

Note

Avoid hot foods for half a day; subsequently, avoid fishy foods, vegetable oil, and cold foods; cold water is permitted.
