Drug Formulation

1 liang of Angelica sinensis, 1 liang of red peony root, 1 liang of Acorus tatarinowii, 1 liang of Atractylodes lancea (all charred to preserve their properties), 15 castor bean kernels (ground to a paste), 3 qian of frankincense, 2 qian of myrrh, 3 fen of musk, 5 fen of toad venom, 2 qian of dragon’s blood, and 12 croton seeds (pricked with a needle and burned over a lamp until the smoke dissipates).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. First, melt 2 liang of beeswax, then add the Angelica, Red Peony, Acorus, Atractylodes, Croton, and Castor seeds. Stir thoroughly with a willow twig. Remove from heat, add the Frankincense, Myrrh, Musk, Toad Venom, and Dragon’s Blood, and stir until well blended. Roll the mixture into long strips, each as thick as a tendon, 3 cun long, and weighing 1 qian.

Instructions for Use

When needed, heat over a lamp flame and apply to the affected area, making 40–50 dots around the perimeter; then treat with a decoction to resolve the condition.
