Drug Formulation

Half a jin of high-quality ginseng (sliced; simmer in a sandpot with 5 large bowls of water over low heat until reduced to 3 bowls; strain the residue and simmer again to yield 1 bowl of liquid; combine both, filter through fine silk to clarify, then simmer until thick and viscous; store in a porcelain bowl for future use), 6 liang of sliced Atractylodes macrocephala, and 6 liang of Huaiqing prepared Rehmannia glutinosa (both prepared using the same method as above).

Processing

Once the preparation of the above three ointments is complete, place each in a porcelain bowl, immerse them immediately in water, and remove them once cooled; cover them to prevent the loss of medicinal properties.

Instructions for Use

If the patient appears listless, is reluctant to speak or move, and suffers from shortness of breath and spontaneous sweating, administer 3 spoonfuls of Ginseng Paste, 2 spoonfuls of Atractylodes Paste, and 1 spoonful of Rehmannia Paste, all dissolved in 1 cup of high-quality, ash-free wine, warmed and taken orally. If the spleen qi is deficient, resulting in reduced appetite, an inability to taste food, or undigested food in the stomach, administer 3 spoonfuls of Atractylodes Paste, 2 spoonfuls of Ginseng Paste, and 1 spoonful of Rehmannia Paste, dissolved in high-quality, warm wine and taken orally.If the patient experiences soreness and weakness in the lower back and knees, weakness in the legs and feet, and rough, dry, and withered skin on the hands and feet, take 3 spoonfuls of Rehmannia paste, 3 spoonfuls of ginseng, and 3 spoonfuls of Atractylodes paste, dissolved in hot wine and taken orally. If the Qi and Blood, as well as the Spleen and Stomach, are in balance with no one aspect predominating, take 2 spoonfuls of each of the three pastes, dissolved in hot wine and taken orally.
