Drug Formulation

1 liang of Angelica dahurica, 1 liang of rhubarb, 1 liang of Coptis, 1 liang of Bletilla, 1 liang of Cynanchum, 1 liang of Scutellaria, 1 liang of Trichosanthes seed, 1 liang of Phellodendron, 1 liang of Notopterygium, 1 liang of Dehua, 1 liang of Golden-haired Dogspine, 1 liang of apricot kernels, 1 liang of Angelica sinensis, 1 liang of peony root, 1 liang of Ligusticum,Cistanche 1 liang, Raw Rehmannia 1 liang, Xianhu 1 liang, Cinnamon Bark 1 liang, Bupleurum 1 liang, Schizonepeta 1 liang, Astragalus 1 liang, Forsythia 1 liang, Fangfeng 1 liang,Castor Seeds 1 liang, Frankincense 1 liang, Myrrh 1 liang, Dragon’s Blood 1 liang, Camphor 4 liang, Human Hair Ash 4 liang, Sesame Oil 3 jin, Fly Dan 1 jin, Musk 5 qian, Locust Branches 2 liang, Willow Branches 2 liang.

Processing

Grind the fine ingredients such as Frankincense separately and set aside for later use. Add the remaining ingredients to the oil and boil until the mixture turns a black, charred color; strain out the residue, then boil again until it does not disperse when a drop of water is added. Add Fly Dan, and stir continuously with the locust and willow branches until the mixture is soft when mixed with water, neither breaking apart nor sticking; remove from heat. Add the three ingredients—Frankincense, Myrrh, and Dragon’s Blood—followed by Camphor and Musk, stirring until well blended; set aside for application as a poultice.
