Processing

Take about 10 wood melons; cut off the top of each one and remove the pulp. Sprinkle a small amount of the powdered medicine on the base. Wrap 1 liang of cinnabar in a piece of silk, moisten it with honey, and place it in the center. Fill the cavity with the powdered medicine until full, then secure the top with the wood melon lid. Fasten it with a bamboo skewer. Wrap the entire wood melon in gauze to prevent the contents from spilling out. Prepare 20–30 such melons.Place the preparation inside a silver container of appropriate size, lining the top and bottom with the powdered medicine and sealing it securely. Place the container inside a silver pot or steamer—do not use iron utensils—and steam over a moderate to high flame using mulberry wood for 7 days and nights. Replace the papaya pulp once, then steam for another 7 days and nights before stopping. Remove the cinnabar, spread it out to dry, and grind it into a fine powder. Mix it with a thin paste made from coix seed flour to form pills the size of a tung tree seed.
