Gentiana root 1 qian, Fangfeng 1 qian, raw licorice 1 qian, Asarum 1 qian.

Benefits

For redness and ulceration of both eyelids, accompanied by heat, swelling, and pain; itching and pain in the eyelids leading to scratching until they break open; sores on the eyelid margins; excessive eye discharge and tearing; difficulty opening the eyes due to dryness and irritation; and the growth of itchy pterygium.

Instructions for Use

Coarsely chop the ingredients as described; leave the licorice unchopped and form it into a single pill. First, use one and a half large bowls of water to decoct the Gentiana alone until the volume is reduced by half. Then add the remaining three ingredients and decoct until at least half a bowl remains. Strain out the residue, and use the clear, warm liquid to wash the eyes. Heat the liquid in a double boiler to maintain its warmth. Use 5–7 times daily. After each wash, keep your eyes closed for one hour.
