Processing

First, prepare 14 ingredients, including ginseng, according to the prescribed methods; chop them finely and mix thoroughly.Next, mix the cinnabar with boiling water, place it in a semi-transparent silk bag, and tie the opening securely with thread. Take a clay pot, fill it with 7 fen of water, and place a silver pot inside it. Add 20 jin of white sand honey to the silver pot. Suspend the herb bag in the center of the silver pot so that it does not touch the bottom, ensuring the honey covers the bag. Heat over a mulberry wood fire until it comes to a rolling boil, keeping the fire steady at all times, simmer for 3 days until the honey turns charred black, then replace the honey and continue simmering. After 7 days, turn off the heat, remove the mixture, rinse out the herbs, wash the cinnabar thoroughly, and let it dry. Place it inside a cow’s heart, then steam it again in the double-boiler using the silver pot. If the water in the double-boiler evaporates, add hot water through the pot’s rim. Once the cow’s heart is steamed to a soft pulp, remove the cinnabar and replace the cow’s heart, repeating the steaming process as before. After 7 such cycles, the cinnabar is fully processed. Rinse it thoroughly with boiling water, roast it until dry, then place it in a mortar with a jade pestle and grind it to a very fine powder. Form it into pills the size of peas using rice husks as the binder, and air-dry them in the shade.
