Drug Formulation

Old-wood incense (i.e., rosin and beeswax from long-decayed coffins in provinces such as Shanxi and Shaanxi; if unavailable, substitute with aged lime) 1 liang, Cunbaixiang (i.e., interior pine resin) 1 liang,1 liang of rosin (melt together with the “Cunbai” resin, stir thoroughly, pour into cold water, then remove and air-dry), 5 qian of elephant skin (sliced thinly, roasted until yellow; dry thoroughly but do not let it burn), 5 qian of dragon bone (the white variety, ground while raw), and 1 qian of dried alum.

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder and store in a porcelain jar.

Instructions for Use

In cases of lacerations caused by knives or stones, apply the medicine to the wound and fan the affected area; if the wound swells, decoct Coptis in water and apply it with a feather dipped in the solution.

Note

Avoid lying in hot places.
