Drug Formulation

1 toad (remove skin, bones, and internal organs; roast until charred; grind into powder; combine with 1 zhan of ash-free liquor and the juice extracted from 1 wild boar’s gallbladder; simmer into a paste), 1 fen of chela bark (roasted), 1 fen of shijunzi (shelled), 1 fen of hu huanglian, 1 fen of cicada slough, 1 fen of wushizi,Aloe (ground) 1 fen, Wu-yi 1 fen, bear bile 1 fen, night-bright sand 1 fen, cinnabar (ground) 1 fen, realgar 1 fen, wood fragrance 1 fen, nutmeg (shell removed; 0.5 fen in spring and summer, 1 fen in autumn and winter), ox bile (ground) 1 qian, musk (ground) 1 qian.

Processing

Grind the ingredients into a fine powder and form into pills the size of a sesame seed using pig gall paste.

Instructions for Use

Take 5–7 pills per dose, washed down with rice water; for startle-induced wasting, take with Jinqian-Peppermint Decoction; for wasting with sores and abdominal distension, take with Peach Kernel-Anise Decoction; for intestinal parasites, take with Dong’an Pomegranate and Chinese Toon Root Decoction.

Note

Do not take this formula if the condition is accompanied by fever and dysentery.
