Drug Formulation
5 li of musk, 1 qian of cinnabar, 36 castor beans (remove the shells to extract the kernels; select plump, white ones).

Processing
First, grind the cinnabar into a fine powder; then add the musk and mix thoroughly; finally, combine the castor bean kernels with the mixture and grind everything into a fine powder. This must be prepared with purity and sincerity at noon on the Dragon Boat Festival.
Instructions for Use
Dip a finger in the medicine and apply it to the child’s crown, the front and back of the chest, the palms of both hands, the soles of both feet, the creases of both elbows, the creases of both knees, and both armpits—a total of 13 locations. Apply an amount the size of a coin to each spot evenly, ensuring full coverage without leaving any residue. If the child has long hair, shave a small patch on the crown to ensure the medicine adheres directly to the skin; only then will it be fully effective.After application, allow the ointment to fall off naturally; do not wash it off. Each batch of medicine is intended for a single child, and the treatment is the same for both boys and girls. One application will cause a few smallpox lesions to appear; apply again at noon on the Dragon Boat Festival the following year, and only 1–2 lesions will appear; apply once more on the Dragon Boat Festival the year after that, and smallpox will never appear again.
