Drug Formulation

5 qian of peppermint, 5 qian of dried silkworm, 5 qian of indigo powder, 5 qian of magnolia bark, 5 qian of white alum, 5 qian of calcined alum, 5 qian of Coptis, 5 qian of borax.

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. On the first day of the twelfth lunar month, take 7–8 male pig gallbladders, drain the bile, and mix a small portion of it thoroughly with the powdered medicine.then refill the gallbladder shells, tie the openings with string, and wrap the gallbladders in blue-glazed paper. Dig a hole in the ground, 1 chi wide and deep; suspend the gallbladders horizontally above it using a bamboo pole, cover the top with a board and seal it tightly with mud. Wait until the Day of the Start of Spring to retrieve them, hang them in a breezy place to air-dry, remove the gallbladder membranes and blue paper, and store them tightly in a porcelain jar. For every 1 liang of the mixture, add 3 fen of borneol, and grind everything together into a very fine powder.
